The Testing Trilogy by Joelle Charbonneau is a captivating dystopian series that has captivated readers worldwide. The trilogy consists of three novels: The Testing (2013),Independent Study (2014),and Graduation Day (2015). The series is set in a futuristic society where citizens are constantly tested and ranked in order to determine their worth. Those who score high are given the opportunity to attend top schools and universities, while those who score low are relegated to menial jobs or even death.

In Independent Study, the second book in the trilogy, protagonist Cia Vale is forced to participate in a secret program that tests the limits of her intelligence and endurance. Along the way, she uncovers a dark secret about the government and must decide whether to fight for her freedom or submit to the oppressive system.

Independent Study picks up where The Testing left off. Cia has been chosen to participate in an independent study program, which is designed to test the limits of her abilities. The program is run by a mysterious organization known as the Consortium, and Cia is not sure what to expect.

At first, the program seems like a challenge, but Cia quickly realizes that it is more than that. The Consortium is using the program to test Cia's intelligence, endurance, and loyalty. They want to see how far she is willing to go to survive.

As Cia progresses through the program, she begins to uncover a dark secret about the government. She learns that the Consortium is not what it seems, and that they are using the program to control the population. Cia must decide whether to fight for her freedom or submit to the oppressive system.

Cia Vale is the protagonist of The Testing Trilogy. She is a strong-willed and determined young woman who is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in. Cia is also compassionate and caring, and she always puts the needs of others before her own.

Thomas is another main character in The Testing Trilogy. He is Cia's best friend and confidant. Thomas is a kind and gentle soul who is always there for Cia when she needs him.

Zia is a classmate of Cia and Thomas. She is a brilliant scientist who is always striving to be the best. Zia is often competitive with Cia, but she also cares for her deeply.

Marcus is a member of the Consortium who is responsible for overseeing the independent study program. He is a cold and calculating man who is not afraid to use violence to get what he wants.

The Testing Trilogy explores a number of themes, including:

  • Conformity: The trilogy shows how dangerous it can be to blindly follow the crowd. Cia is constantly pressured to conform to the expectations of the Consortium, but she eventually learns to think for herself.
  • Individuality: The trilogy also celebrates individuality. Cia is a unique and special person, and she learns to embrace her differences.
  • Resistance: The trilogy shows how important it is to resist oppression. Cia and her friends are willing to risk their lives to fight for their freedom.

Joelle Charbonneau's writing style is fast-paced and suspenseful. She keeps the reader on the edge of their seat from beginning to end. Charbonneau's characters are well-developed and relatable, and the reader will find themselves rooting for them every step of the way.

The Testing Trilogy is a thought-provoking and suspenseful read that will stay with you long after you finish it. The trilogy is a powerful reminder of the importance of conformity, individuality, and resistance.
